Decommissioning old servers

Decommissioning the old servers requires three steps. Be sure you follow these steps in sequential

order.

1. Moving key roles and services

2. Moving existing connectors

3. Uninstalling old servers

If the server was a Domain Controller and held any of the following roles, it moved to the new server

before you can decommission the old servers:

• Domain Naming Master

• Schema Master

• RID Master

• Infrastructure Master

• PDC Emulator

• Global Catalog

To move these roles and services:

1. Make the new server the Domain Naming Master.

a. Right-click Active Directory Domains and Trusts, as shown in Figure 17, and select

Operations Master.
