Checking System Compatibility During an Upgrade

To initiate the upgrade of the operating system on the Windows NT 4.0 PDC, you can use either

local or shared media. If you choose local media installation and auto-play is enabled, you can

initiate the upgrade by inserting the Windows Server 2003 CD into the PDC. If auto-play is

disabled, browse the CD for the winnt32.exe command and run it. Using media on a network

share, you can initiate the upgrade by connecting to the media share point and running the

winnt32.exe command.

After inserting the Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition CD into the CD-ROM drive, the Setup

program automatically starts and the following screen appears:

This first screen provides the administrator with three options. From here the administrator can

choose to install, perform additional tasks such as browsing the CD, or check for system

compatibility. At this point it is wise to check system compatibility to get a better picture of what

components may be an issue during or after the upgrade.
